Product Name: Mepore
Classification Name: Dressing Island Nonwoven Fabric Adhesive
Manufacturer: Mölnlycke Health Care

Description

image

Mepore is a self-adhesive absorbent dressing that has an absorbent wound pad located centrally on a piece of apertured, non-woven polyester fabric coated with a layer of an acrylic adhesive. The wound pad is made of a viscose nonwoven coated with a polyolefin layer to give a smooth surface and render it low-adherent. The polyester backing makes the product permeable and highly flexible, allowing it to conform well to body contours. The dressing is protected by two pieces of overlapping release film which are easy to remove and allows for aseptic application.

Indications

Mepore is available in a range of sizes and is suitable for many types of lightly exuding superficial or postoperative wounds, particularly those on joints or awkward body contours.

Contra-indications

The manufacturers have identified no absolute contra-indications to the use of Mepore but the dressing should not be applied to patients who are known to be sensitive to acrylic adhesives or to individuals who have very fragile or easily damaged skin.

Method of use

The dressing is removed from the peel pouch and one part of the release film is removed. The end of the dressing is then applied to the skin, and taking care not to stretch the backing, the second half of the release film is removed and the dressing smoothed gently into place.

Frequency of Change

The frequency of dressing changes will be governed by the condition of the underlying wound.

Warnings

Mepore should not be applied to patients who are sensitive to acrylic adhesives. Care should be taken when applying the dressing that it does not impair the movement or flexibility of joints. It should also not be applied under tension to prevent shearing forces causing damage to the skin. After some surgical interventions significant swelling can occur. In such instances it may be more appropriate to apply a more flexible product to minimise the possibility of skin trauma.

Presentation

Each dressing is presented individually wrapped in a peel pouch sterilised by ethylene oxide.

Storage

In common with all adhesive products, Mepore should be stored in a cool dry place, and not subjected to extremes of temperature or humidity.
