Tielle Lite is an island dressing with a multi-layered structure consisting of a thin sheet of hydrophilic absorbent poly-urethane foam applied to the centre of thin polyurethane foam membrane coated with an acrylic adhesive.
The inner surface of the polyurethane foam island is covered with an apertured plastic film made from ethyl methyl acrylate that acts as a low-adherent wound-contact layer. This film also reduces the loss of fluid by evaporation from the wound surface thus helping to maintain a moist wound environment.
The wound contact surface of the dressing is covered with two pieces of paper coated with a release agent that act as a carrier and facilitate application.
Tielle Lite is waterproof and the polyurethane foam backing forms an effective barrier to bacteria under normal conditions of use. The polyurethane foam backing is highly permeable to moisture vapour, a property that makes an important contribution to the total fluid-handling characteristics of the dressing.
Tielle Lite is indicated for use on most types of lightly exuding or epithelialising wounds in the final stages of healing including traumatic injuries and post-operative wounds.
No absolute contra-indications to the use of Tielle Lite have been reported, but the dressing should not be applied to individuals who are known to be sensitive to any of its components.
Wherever possible a dressing should be selected that is large enough to ensure that the central island overlaps the wound edges by approximately 1cm. The release papers should be partially removed, the absorbent island located centrally over the wound and the dressing smoothed gently into position as the release papers are peeled back..
Should the wound be larger than the central island, two dressings can be overlapped by cutting off one adhesive margin before removing the backing paper and applying the dressing to the wound as described. Once in place, the cut edge is covered with a second dressing ensuring at least 1 cm overlap.
Removal of Tielle Lite may be achieved by gently peeling back the dressing from one corner. On fragile or friable skin it may be advisable to use sterile water or saline to break the adhesive bond as the dressing is removed.
The frequency of dressing changes depends upon the condition of the wound and the amount of exudate produced. On lightly exuding wounds Tielle Lite may be left undisturbed for up to 7 days but if dressings need to be changed more often than twice per week, a change to the more absorbent Tielle or Tielle Plus should be considered.
Tielle Lite is not recommended for use on clinically infected wounds without medical supervision.
Tielle Lite is presented in a paper peel pouch, sterilised by gamma irradiation.
